Pisum Sativum Peas are believed to have originated in the Middle East. Deposits have been found in central Turkey that date to 5,700 B.C. Yellow peas have a mild, earthy flavor and soft texture. Split peas are found most often in Scandinavian and Indian cuisine. The mild flavor and golden color of this pea makes it a wonderful addition in soups, sauces, dips and spreads.
